Every day for the past however many years, fans have come together in Bochum on a non-show day during the school summer holidays, to get an exclusive up-close day at Starlight Express in Germany.
Backstage tours, special signings by cast members in full costume, an always high anticipated auction of old and no longer used costume parts.
My favourite part of the good old Open Day, or Tag der offenen Tür in German, are the performances outside. The productions puts up a stage outside the theatre, where cast members and guests will perform songs of their choice, as well as fan favourites from the show. You not only get to see principal performers, but also get a chance to hear swings and performers, you wouldn’t necessarily hear sing during a regular Starlight Express performance. It’s always a fun part towards the end of a long day.
